“The Fight Is On!” Says Black Detroit Pastors Denouncing Threat to Voting Rights

Detroit, Michigan- At a Press Conference led by hosted this week by over 100 Black Pastors from Detroit and Christian leaders across the State of Michigan, Pastor Lennell Caldwell denounced what he stated is a threat to the Voting Rights of the people of Michigan, “God defined marriage and 2.5 people went to the polls to ratify what God defined.”.

On February 25, 2014, Judge Friedman of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan began presiding over a trial for the Deboer v Synder and Schuette case regarding adoption and whether the institution of marriage between one man and one woman should be redefined in the State of Michigan.

“You have decided that God is wrong.”, said Rev. Dr. Roland A. Caldwell, Pastor of Burnette Inspirational Ministry, Detroit, Michigan, speaking of those who advocate redefining marriage as other than between one man and one woman. “The fight is on!”

Judge Friedman is likely to deliver his ruling on whether Michigan’s Marriage Protection is Constitutional after the trial. Several Pastors who spoke at the Press Conference weighed in on whether Friedman should have any basis for presiding over a case where the voters had already determined the definition of marriage in the State.

“We as Pastors and leaders do expect that those that are in our government office to stand and support the rights of our people.”, said Rev. Dr. Randolph Thomas, Senior Pastor of Greater Bethlehem Church, Detroit, Michigan issuing a demand to elected officials. “The idea that it will be debated in the next eight days, it is our position that our rights will not be tampered with, will not be tainted, and certainly not be taken away from us. The voice of the people have already been spoken.”
